I have read a paragraph dealing with effects of female genes and hormones here on IAA website. In the light of this text, I wonder what the best timing of surgery would be. Obviously, the surgery should be avoided during the menstruation and also in days just prior to menstruation (how many prior to it?). Is this valid for the day of actual surgery or for some period after the surgery too (how long)? Since not every time it is available a suitable date of the surgery, would it be safe to use hormonal medication to delay/induce the menstruation (under control of gynaecologist) or it may have other negative effects on arthrofibrosis? Thank you for your advice.

Hi,
Thanks for your post. We don't have science to guide us well in answering this specific question, but I would think that the middle weeks of the month would be the safest, and given the changes in hormones, possibly from day 7 to 14. My feeling is that it would be very worthwhile to skip the menstrual cycle afterwards, especially if you have painful, heavy menstruation.
All the best,
Kayley
